Boulder is known as a hub of creativity, with plenty of venues for entrepreneurs and business leaders to meet up and share ideas. But for some, credentials can be intimidating and thwart the productivity of such events.
Now comes House of Genius, a completely volunteer-run, self-funded service that brings together diverse minds from the community once a month that organizers say provides supportive input and share new ideas in an ego-free environment.
Following The Tree Shirt House’s participation to the March’s session of the House of Genius last Wednesday, we wanted to write something special about this episode in our adventure.It all started by meeting Dan, an American web developer working for TravelShark at the Up To The Sky Festival back in December, who told us about HOG and very kindly linked us up with them.
Endeavor Entrepreneurs from Gyft (South Africa/USA), Mural.ly (Argentina), and Campo Alto(Colombia) had the opportunity to meet with members of the Austin chapter of House of Genius, an organization that brings together entrepreneurs and a diverse mix of business leaders from the community for an evening of disruptive thinking, supportive input, and creative new ideas..
PG interviewed Tim Williams, co-founder of House of Genius based in Boulder, which assembles brilliant, diverse groups of 15-18 people to focus their collective creativity and experience on solving important problems – in rapid-fire manner. Once a month, in evening sessions in cities around the world, the group hosts three business presenters and offers insights, suggestions and introductions to advance their causes. House of Genius now convenes in Denver, Boulder, Austin, San Francisco, Portland, NYC and Singapore.
While there are many startup events that help people network (read schmooze!), there are few events that bring people together to collaborate and help each other out. One such event format is the House of Genius series of sessions.
House of Genius is an entrepreneurial community service that assembled 380 professionals from various fields to assist 57 entrepreneurs in 2011. The founders, Tim Williams, Toma Bedolla and Collin Adair, recognized an opportunity to create an ongoing community event where the contributors could share their expertise for a greater good.
Launched first in Boulder, Colorado – a dynamic city for startups that is home to hundreds of successful new companies, venture capital firms, and leading startup incubator Techstars–House of Genius assembles a diverse group of business people to provide input on an opportunity or challenge faced by three presenting entrepreneurs in each ‘Genius session. Evening sessions are held once each month in a growing list of House of Genius cities.
The goal of House of Genius is to assemble brilliant, diverse groups of people to focus their collective creativity and experience to explore, discuss and solve important problems. Generally, they do this once a month in evening sessions in cities around the world. This event is being held in Singapore for the first time.
